His Word is a lamp to my feet, a light to my path – Psalm 119:105
Dear Supporters of Jeri’s House!
I’m so excited to finally be writing our first monthly newsletter to keep everyone updated on the great things happening! This August edition may be a little longer than normal because there’s so much information to share! So, sit back, put your feet up, and enjoy!
The above verse has always kind of confused me because it sounded like it was saying the same thing twice. But was it? No, not at all! This verse has become very real to me in the last few years concerning Jeri’s House. Some decisions need to be made now and others made in the future. So, we have a lamp under our feet to see or obtain wisdom for what we need to do now and a light to our path, so we know what we need to do in the future. Our main goal right now is to get the houses up and going here in Tulsa but our long term goal is to also have houses in Oklahoma City. No limitation where God is concerned!
I met Mother Miriam in January 2017 and she wanted to offer her two houses to Jeri’s House as she and her organization were moving out of state. She didn’t know when she would find another area and I knew it would be better if it happened when I retired from Visual Services. We stayed in touch over the last 4 years and December 2020 she found a place in Kansas. Due to unforeseen circumstances their move has bumped into some obstacles, but it looks like all will be clear by the end of August for them to move their things out and for Jeri’s House to move in! I’m so excited! She is offering these two houses, one being 2,200 square feet and the other being 1,100 square feet for $800 a month or until the total cost is paid which is $250,000. This is absolutely unbelievable! But that’s exactly how God works, isn’t it?
A few months ago I was contacted by someone who wanted to donate their entire houseful of furniture to Jeri’s House which included a couch, several rocker recliners, end tables and lamps, coffee table, a few night stands, two twin beds, a number of book shelves, dining table with chairs and almost everything needed for the kitchen! Again, how wonderful is this?!
One of the most important things Jeri’s House has done is we hired a part-time secretary who started July 13th of this year. Her name is Beth, and she is a God sent! She will also resume the position of full-time houseparent for the larger house when we move in.
As most of you know, we had to cancel our Murder Mystery fundraiser a few times due to covid but we’re happy to say it has been rescheduled. So, save the date of November 6, 2021, in Oklahoma City. It promises to be an entertaining and educational event you won’t want to miss! More details will be in our upcoming newsletters and on our website and Facebook.
Just because we are not in the houses yet doesn’t mean we are sitting idly by. We went to the home of our first participant to start teaching them skills they requested to help with their independence. We will continue going to participants’ homes until we are able to see them at Jeri’s House. Even after we settle in, not only will we serve those who decide to live there, but also provide daily classes for those who wish to learn independent skills but choose not to live at the house because they live in the local area and cannot give up their current residence. Our first participant was so excited to know they were the first!
We appreciate each of you so very much for being a part of this endeavor! We believe God has His hands on every aspect of Jeri’s House and we want to be obedient. Our goal is to inspire and empower DeafBlind individuals to be all that God intended them to be! Your prayers and financial support are helping us to achieve this passion! Please continue your support and check out our website for updates and of course, be on the lookout for our next edition of Jeri’s House newsletter.
May God bless you and keep you, make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you, grant you peace both now and forever! Numbers 6:24-26
